Our spinal cord and nervous system come down from our brain to all parts of our body somewhat like the Holy Spirit comes down from Heaven and out to all parts of the Church throughout the Earth to help spread the teachings of Jesus. There is even a 'letter H' of sorts in the cross section of the spinal cord in some portions of its length. Is that H for Holy Spirit? God foresaw all languages, even English, even shaping them as He pleased. I don't know if that's supposed to resemble a letter H, but the idea is less improbable than it might seem upon first hearing it. It might actually be a hint, though that is purely speculation, and perhaps unlikely. And as the Holy Spirit takes guidance and commands from Heaven's throne to all portions of the body, and brings requests and prayer needs and praise from all parts of the body of Christ (the Church) back to Heaven, so also does the nervous system and spine deliver commands from the brain to all parts of the human body and brings back reports and needs from all parts of the body to the brain. There are 24 nerves which emanate directly from the brain instead of the spinal cord, just as there are 24 elders seated before the throne of God, per the Bible. In fact, it is just one of so very many things which support the idea that we are made in the image of God, that our anatomical structures purposefully reflect so many things spoken of in the Bible.
Our human spine is a marvel in many ways, and anyone who has ever injured their spine knows how crucial its health and proper function is to our body's ability to work as designed. The spine's beautiful architecture and amazing complexity of design could hardly have arisen by chance, but our 'best and brightest'...our scientists...are absolutely opposed to saying so even today. Well, not absolutely. A growing number of scientists now acknowledge that machines of such monumental complexities as our body certainly did have a designer...a very, very intelligent designer. Yet there are still a large number who won't hear of it no matter what the evidence. And of those willing to admit the obvious, many don't believe that designer was the God of Abraham. Very sad! God actually designed those scientists, yet they would edit Him out of His own script. But let's look at the spine, because it seems its design was actually very Holy! Not just functional, but Holy and maybe prophetic!
First, here is the proposed idea: our human bodies, though functional, were also built in a prophetic way that correlates with the Bible and with the history of the people of God. It sounds odd, but it is Biblical in various ways, so it might be possible. For one thing, it refers to our body as a Temple. A Holy Temple that we should not mistreat or pollute or corrupt. It also says humans were built in the image of God in several places in the Bible. Built in the Image of God. And there is a place in Colossians, Colossians 1:15 , where it says that Jesus is the image of God. In fact it is a very powerful bit of scripture that teaches us a lot using a very short number of verses:
15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
End Quote
But Jesus is also God in substance...the Son of God...and He is also named the Word in the Gospel of John (a name the Bible itself also shares, among Christians) and so if humans are made in the image of God then we may be made in the reflection of not just the Father and of Jesus, but of the Bible in some manner. And the prophet Daniel, speaking to Nebuchadnezzar of the interpretation of his nightmare wherein a large, man shaped metal colossus stood on a plain, frightening the king, Daniel explained that God had shown him that the top or head and shoulders of the colossus represented their present time ( 6th century B.C. Babylon ) and as a person looked downward from head to neck to shoulders and chest, then stomach, then hips, even to the legs and feet, the colossus represented the succession of coming empires which would arise after Babylon. And as with all Bible prophecies, it unfolded to be completely accurate, though the feet seems to not yet be 'fulfilled' by human history. So the Bible may be patterned off of human design, or human design off of the coming Bible, etc.. I have written a lot of accounts ( all of the " 6th Day " accounts which will all pull up if you search using the phrase " 6th Day " ) discussing ways that I believe this correlation of our human bodies to holy things can be confirmed (just my opinion, not voice of God.) I feel that there are far and away too many correlations for it to be speculation. In fact, at this point, I personally believe it's mathematically impossible that humans are not built to reflect Holy things and also the history of the people of God as time progressed, with the feet representing the 'end times' and the head the early events.
But as for the spine, why not consider some points of correlation suggesting that our spine is of Holy design? Many people think that as for the Creation, it's all about Jesus, and the Father designed it to be that way. The spine has some hints about that. For instance, many eschatologists think Jesus was 33 years old on this Earth when He died. The spine has 33 vertebrae.
Also, for what it's worth, the number 33 has a lot of Biblical or holy connections. All of the lower numbers are bound to have some. But still, maybe there are a suspiciously large bunch with the number 33, and pretty profound ones at that! Here are some:
The 33rd mention of Abraham's name is when Isaac was being born, and Isaac has typological connections with Jesus.
The 33rd mention of Noah's name is when God makes a Covenant with him, they say.
David ruled in Jerusalem for 33 years before his son Solomon became his successor. Solomon has typological connections with Jesus.
The Jews use what is referred to as Gematria...each of their alphabet's letters also stand in for use as a number, that way they didn't need written numerals, you just knew by the context of the written sentence when it was that the letters were being used as numbers...and so each of their words incidentally or purposefully add up to a number...and the word AMEN in Hebrew has a value of 33. Jesus is referred to as "the Amen, the faithful and true Witness."
Numbers 33 recounts the step by step segments of how God's people, wandering after crossing the Red Sea, and reached the border of the Promised Land. And Christians believe Jesus is the way, the only way, to the Promised Land (to Salvation!)
It is a strange thing, but in a great many spots in the Bible, when God's people are in the greatest of danger but He saves them just in time, the number 66 is to be seen right in those very verses in some context or another. I wrote an account about the number 66 because of that! But...if you picture Jesus as a man (therefore having 33 vertebrae) and you picture God's people as His bride in that moment when they are being saved (and women have 33 vertebrae) then there are 66 vertebrae present, metaphorically, when Jesus saves His bride.
The 33rd book of a Protestant Bible is Micah, which predicts in Micah 5:2 that the Messiah will be born in Bethlehem:
2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans[a] of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
from ancient times.”

Many think that Jesus is our rightful king. (I do!) The entire spine looks quite similar to perhaps a spear, but alternatively, also a royal scepter extended downward from above, when the human skeleton is viewed in the 'front view' manner. Scepters have been used as an instrument used by kings to convey favors lent through their high authority, an article to reach out with and convey power with, at times, or to extend mercy, as to 'pardon' someone. Esther was saved from death by the touch of her husband and King, though she came into his presence unbidden, a death sentence in that particular Persian culture. Jesus was Heavenly royalty, extended downward from above. He extended humanity access to a 'royal pardon' if they will be wise and accept it. So, again there is another way of likening the spine as conceivably representing Jesus. There is even a part of the spine called the "sacrum". Here below is a little input on the reason it was named the sacrum, from Google A.I. But a key point is that from ancient times, a portion of the spine had an association with sacredness, and again, from the front aspect, it may look something like a scepter to some:
-
Ancient Greek origin:The name originates from the Greek hieron osteon, with hieron meaning "sacred" or "holy" and osteon meaning "bone".
-
Reason for the name:The primary reason for it being called "sacred" is that the sacrum was the part of an animal offered up in religious sacrifices.
-
Alternative theories:Some alternative explanations suggest the name may have come from a misinterpretation of the Greek word hieron, which can also mean "strong" or "high," a more accurate description of the sacrum's size and position. Another theory is that it was named this way because of a belief that the soul resided in this bone.End quote.
A descending spine also conceivably looks a little like the trunk of a tree with the ribs going out like branches, like an upside down tree, hanging from Heaven. The lungs look like this too, in some ways. The trachea and the lungs together look something like a tree of life descending down from above, so it may be a design idea that God intended, or maybe that's just imagination on some people's part. Only God can know what all He intended. But the spine also can be viewed to look like a tree descending from above...the Tree of Life, perhaps. And Jesus is called the Tree of Life in scripture, one of many names by which He is named in scripture.
The governing area of heaven has the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, these 3 parts that are really 1 part also, seated in the throne room of Heaven. Sometimes seated together, at least. The governing area of our body - our head, designed and built by God 'in His image' - has three parts also...anatomists list the brain as having three main areas: the Cerebrum, the Cerebellum, and the Brain Stem. For humans in the Christian Church, the Body of Christ, we send up word of our needs through our prayers, through the Holy Spirit, to Heaven. And Heaven sends down answers through the Holy Spirit to the Body of Christ. This is very much like the spine (brain stem and spinal cord with the nervous system emanating from it all) routing the lower body's inputs and requests and needs to the brain through the spinal cord, and then the brain uses the spinal cord, the central nervous system, to return its answers to the body. It's as if the flesh of the body is built to reflect this concept of Heaven speaking to the Christian Church through the Holy Spirit.
The Church is sometimes thought to relate to the number 7 for such reasons as Jesus sending messages to 7 churches in the book of Revelation, but for other reasons also, such as the Apostles assigning 7 elders/servers to oversee the needs of the early Jerusalem church...freeing the 12 Apostles up to evangelize. So, those 7 persons were like the 'stay home and serve the brethren's needs' branch of the church org chart. They not only served worldly needs of the church members like the old, the disabled, the widows, etc., but they also sent frequent prayers up to Heaven about various hopes or fears or needs that the Church had. And through them, the necessities of the Church 's most needy members were often met. Later churches copied this idea to a great degree! Reflecting this , the part of the spine that winds up relaying or transferring almost all of the bodies needs to the brain is the cervical portion of the spine, the neck, which has 7 vertebrae. (The brain actually has 24 nerves that emanate directly from the brain to the head, neck and shoulders area, perhaps in reflection of their being 24 elders seated before the throne of Heaven, according to Revelation. These 24 directly emanating nerves are an exception that does not use the cervical vertebrae as their conduit, but the rest of the nervous system's signals use the spine, entering it in their vicinity, and so the cervical vertebrae handle almost all signals to and from the brain because they are so close to our skull.) Most prayer and answered prayers transmitted through the churches are like a reflection of nervous system communication between body and brain brain routed through the 7 cervical vertebrae, then the others. Is that a fair analogy, perhaps? Could God have intended us to consider that likeness between the Spiritual communications with the world and the biological governing of the God-designed Flesh?
Below the 7 cervical are the 12 thoracic vertebrae. Just as these 12 vertebrae 'branch out' by growing ribs which reach out and around, even until they meet towards the sternum in the middle of our chest at the end of their travels (except the bottom 'false' ribs!), so also the 12 Apostles branched out to spread Christianity to all the untaught portions for the world. And one day we hope and believe that the Apostolic evangelists (Apostles traveling out to share the Gospel with the unreached) will all meet, metaphorically speaking, their missionary regions all connected without gaps, having traveled the planet and shared Christ with the whole world. 7 and 12. The plan/design of the spine and also Christianity. Does our body design not reflect the Bible's teachings in many ways? King David, when young and raiding Israel's enemies, had some soldiers stay behind with the camp and its belongings, and others go with him to conquer new ground. But he split the loot evenly between them, counting those who stayed behind as being important in similar manner to those who went out with him and raided. The Apostles and evangelistic disciples were more like David's fellow raiders who went out to conquer, and the 7 elders were more like those who stayed behind to be stewards over what already belonged to David, I think.
Seen from the side and without ribs, our spine looks something like a serpent emanating downward from the brain and with the last, lowest vertebrae forming the 'head' of the serpent. Jesus is of surpassing Holiness, but paradoxically was 'made SIN for us', and the symbol of evil or sin has long been the serpent, even in the Bible. Jesus became SIN so that by taking our SIN upon Himself we might have our sins forgiven through Him. The Angels of Heaven must have looked on in horror or amazement as they watched One to whom they bent the knee be used, willingly, in that role. But when the highest imaginable atoning sacrifice had been made to atone for human sin, perhaps the Angels realized that even dirty, desperately sinful human kind could then be redeemed, based solely on the potency of the sacrifice made by Jesus, and by no means through the merits of any individual man or woman. Only 1/3 of Angels were rebels it appears, where as every human seems to qualify as a rebel, great or smaller, when it comes to obeying God. Perhaps it allowed them to make peace with the reality that some of the humans would be redeemed to live forever in the vicinity of their Angelic dwellings. That's just speculation. I don't know how Angels think, of course, but scripture says, Jesus himself saying it, that no man born of woman was greater than John the Baptist, but the least of the Angels was greater than John. Angels are a higher creature, and though possessing free will they are vastly more loyal and obedient. Perhaps the parable of the prodigal son could refer to humans as the prodigal son, and angels as the son who had remained faithful? I always thought of it as Gentiles being the prodigal son compared to the Jews, or the 10 tribes of Israel compared to the tribes that constituted the Kingdom of Judah. But perhaps it speaks about reconciling the far superior race of Angels to the reality that some Humans shall be allowed back home to Heaven, despite how unworthy we all have been, because the Holy Father loves His Human children still, in spite of our many unjustified offenses? Just speculating.
So are we designed in God's image AND in prophetic resemblance of history, as when Daniel explained to Nebuchadnezzar that the Colossus of his nightmare represented the successive empires of the coming times? I think so. I never heard the Almighty's voice on the matter, but I feel the Holy Spirit has led me to perceive some small bit of it and I personally believe that it is truth. That said, the pelvis area...what about that? The spine...the tail bone... it all links up to the pelvis...is welded to it, so to speak. The pelvis is and always has been a functional bone structure, of course, vital to human function. No part of our pelvic area, flesh or bone, arose and formed by accident. It was all designed by God down to the smallest detail, including the parts we are taught to be modest about, and the parts that are unclean seeming, and the parts that are just seen as unobjectionable anatomy. God made it all. Chronologically, referring to the book of Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar's dream of the Colossus, the pelvis represents the Roman Empire, which took over Jerusalem in 63 B.C. It is during that Roman Empire's heyday that the conception of Jesus in the flesh occurred, that his development in the womb and his birth in Bethlehem and then His childhood and early manhood occurred all in Roman times, and then His baptism, His ministry, His crucifixion and His ascension from the dead, and the birth and development of the early Christian church, even up to perhaps 476 A.D. when many count the end of the Western Roman Empire to have occurred. All this was during Western Rome's time of dominance in worldly affairs in that large region stretching from Europe to lands even east of Israel. And today, in 2025 A.D., perhaps the foremost, most widely recognized symbol of the Roman Empire is the Colosseum of Rome...which looks quite a lot like a pelvis, especially in light of the great opening, the collapsed wall, in the one side of it! That missing portion of the Colosseum makes it look something like the anterior opening of the otherwise generally bowl shaped appearance of the pelvis. Also, the structure was originally called 'the Flavian Amphitheater', but was later called 'the Colosseum' because Emperor Nero commissioned a very large 98 foot tall bronze statue of himself, the Colossus of Nero, which was eventually placed near the Flavian Amphitheater, and the theory is that people began referring to the Flavian Amphitheater by the name Colosseum because it was near to this visually prominent Colossus made of metal.
Doesn't it seem strikingly unlikely, a quite strange 'coincidence', that the Rome, the Future Empire forecasted/prophecied by Daniel to correspond to the pelvis of the metal colossus in Nebuchadnezzar's nightmare, had in its eponymously named capitol a prominent architectural structure that looks something like a pelvis and also had a giant metallic Colossus placed so near to it that the Amphitheater is believed to have taken its name from Nero's Colossus? Could that be God guiding history in such a way as to convey prophetic meanings and also demonstrate His sovereignty over the unfolding of history?
I would speculate that the connection point of the femurs to the pelvis represents somewhere between 31 A.D. to 66 A.D. That is basically when 'the Church' (the Christian Church) formed and then departed to preach to the whole world. Hey, legs are for walking! Two femurs...an Eastern and Western Church? Maybe. The knee cap at the Church division point of 1054 A.D., when the Eastern and Western Roman Empires excommunicated each other? Our kneecaps shaped like a crabshell and the Crab Nebulae forming and being seen even in the day sky in 1054 A.D. to mark the division of Jesus' beloved church? If so, the time of the 'feet', representing the end times before the millennium would be approximately now, based on the distance from the hip joint to the knee representing just over 1,000 years. The same distance downward from the knee would be the feet., which represent the second coming of Jesus.
And also, for male humans there is, in that same pelvic area, a God-formed part that can rise up and offer new life to the world even as it collapses and is finished, just like the Son of God was raised up, and from the thoughts of His mind there went out all of these teachings of Christianity and the Gospel that could offer new life to the world? And that part got 'circumcised' when the tradition was still emplaced by God, and it was a 'sacrifice that only a son could make', this fleshly circumcision. Likewise, Jesus death on the cross to be our atonement was 'a sacrifice that only the Son, the Son of God that is, could make'. Only Jesus carried sufficient gravity as a being that His atonement in the flesh could be counted as sufficient to atone for the vast and wicked sinning of humankind. And they sometimes use the term 'cut off in the flesh' to describe Jesus crucifixion. Circumcision is literally a case where 'flesh is cut off', yet the part where it was cut off from does not 'actually' die, just as Jesus did not actually die, but arose from the dead. And circumcision happens on the 8th day of a babies life, and Jesus' number is widely regarded to be the number 8. Look it up, there's lots written about the number 8 being a number especially associated with Jesus. Remember, even though we have to speak carefully about our Lord Jesus who is high beside the Father Himself, yet God the Father did create every part I just spoke about. And scriptures tell us that the Creation itself testifies about Jesus. All parts of a human are created...our body is a God-approved part of the Creation and is wholly of His design from the largest part to the smallest. So is there an effigy of the body of Christ built into us? In studying the human body I personally think I have found effigies of Jesus, mostly of our Lord when being crucified, all throughout our body. Look at the 6th Day Series articles on the Deeds of God website if you are interested.
If you look again at the image closest above, at the right side drawing, you see our two ischium looking almost like two human hands seen from above, with an open circle in each formed by the finger curving around to touch the shorter stouter thumb, and with the tips of the forefinger and thumb touching. (Mentally make the hip bones disappear from the drawing, they don't pertain to this part of the discussion.) Pressed between the "touching fingertips" of the ischium on the right side and the ischium (rami) on the left is a white-ish disc of cartilage called the pubic symphysis. Sometimes these separate to assist with opening the birth canal during childbirth, and it allows a fraction more flexibility to the pelvis. But, as a boy raised Catholic in his youth, I have often seen a Roman Catholic priest raise up the first circular little wafer of communion bread, grasped between the tips of the touching fingers of his two hands, as he held the communion wafer upwards towards Heaven asking God's blessing on it. (And wouldn't a king possibly grant His blessing to the bread by touching it with His scepter?) The joined fingertips of the priest's two hands, pressing the wafer between them looks like the two ischium pressing into the public symphysis to an oddly amazing degree...oddly amazing unless you remember that the Church is the bride and body of Christ, and remember that we are made in the image of God, and that one of Jesus' names is 'the Bread of Life', a phrase people use when referring to the pages of the Bible sometimes.
I have mentioned that to my eye the bottom tip of our spine, the assembly of the final tailbone vertebrae, seen from a frontal view, looks like the tip of a royal scepter...the part of a royal scepter that a king holding it might reach out and touch something with. Is it not amazing that the 'communion wafer resembling' public symphysis held in place between the 'hands resembling' ischium can also look like a royal scepter is blessing it, like the tip of the scepter is touching it, if you view it all in a depiction from the perfect angle. And the context is amazing also...this whole lower pelvic region of our body corresponds to the Roman Empire region of Nebuchadnezzar's Colossus. The Christian rite of communion was established by Jesus lifting up bread and to bless it (during the era of the Roman Empire, which is when He lived out His entire fleshly life on Earth) and then Jesus would hand it out to His disciples to willingly accept as their symbolic acceptance of Jesus' teachings and as food to a degree, which gives life to the hungry or starving. And the Rite of Communion continues on from there even until our day, with the Catholic Church using its circular, public symphysis resembling bread wafers and many church denominations just passing around a loaf of bread with a pair of pinchers with which to pull little chunks of bread from the loaf to partake of.
This is not all that makes the spine very interesting and hints at holiness in its design, but some of the other aspects involve drawing attention to things that crude people or enemies of Christianity could very easily use to mock the idea that we are actually and truly built in the image of God, so I'll stop there for now. Perhaps this will have been useful to some people, and on the other hand will have caused no one to quit believing in Jesus. We are 'fearfully and wonderfully made', just as the scriptures say.
